For entry into our ELC 3 children must have turned three by the 30th of April of the proposed commencement year, but are unable to commence with us until the day after their third birthday. It should be noted that preference will be given to children who turn three by the 31 January.

For entry into our ELC 4 children must have turned four by the 30th of April of the proposed commencement year. If your child is currently attending a 4 year old funded pre-school year elsewhere and you are requesting a second ELC 4 year at Mentone Grammar please contact us for more information. Please note a place in the ELC 4 year does not automatically guarantee a place in Foundation the following year.

Please note that under the State Government’s ‘No Jab, No Play’ legislation, the ELC is unable to provide enrolment without proof of up-to-date vaccinations.

For entry into Foundation, children must have turned five by the 30th of April of the proposed commencement year.

“Our streamlined enrolment process helps your family have a wonderful start to your time at Mentone Grammar.”

Local Students on Visas

Mentone Grammar defines a student on visa (local registration) as any student who holds (or is a dependent of persons who hold) a permanent, bridging or temporary visa; this includes New Zealand citizens.

Students on visa who do not have English as their first language require an appropriate level of English language proficiency prior to entry. Student applying to enter Years 4 - 11 will be required to take an English assessment. The Australian Education Assessment Services (AEAS) English report will recommend the length of time required at an English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) at one of Melbourne’s Intensive English centres. The test results provide detail regarding the student’s abilities (stanine), current proficiency in English and are one of the measures of the candidate’s suitability. Other means of determining suitability include school-based assessments and conduct during the enrolment interview.

Local students on visas entering Years 4 - 11 should take the AEAS at least 6 – 12 months prior to their anticipated commencement date. We will recommend to parents that 18 months is preferred. This gives them time to plan their ELICOS studies to ensure they are ready to commence school at the beginning of the academic year. Please note the AEAS report is valid for 12 months.

We require a minimum AEAS score of 70 (upper intermediate) and stanine 5 (average) to apply and to attend an enrolment interview.

Please note that Agent Fees/Commission is not payable for students on visas i.e. local enrolments.

Local students on visas enrolled at the School, irrespective of age, must live in with a parent/legal guardian. It is the responsibility of the family to organise an interpreter if required.

We look forward to welcoming you to our School!
